Eric J. Gertler

Executive Chairman & CEO, U.S. News & World Report

Eric Gertler has held leadership roles in the business, government, and nonprofit sectors. He is a media executive, tech entrepreneur, former public servant, investor, author, and community supporter.

Currently, Gertler is the Executive Chairman & CEO of U.S. News & World Report, where he has overall responsibility for both editorial and business operations for one of the country's largest news sites. Under his leadership, U.S. News has transformed from a traditional print magazine into a highly profitable digital media outlet with diverse revenue streams and a robust business model focused on data, analytics and marketing services.

Gertler's public service includes his leadership as Commissioner & CEO of Empire State Development (NYSESD), New York State's principal economic development agency. Gertler oversaw NYSESD during the Covid-19 pandemic, focusing on four priorities: meeting the unprecedented economic needs arising from the pandemic; completing critical infrastructure projects (including Moynihan Train Hall); attracting companies to New York State and expanding job growth; and implementing economic initiatives with long-term benefits.

Earlier, he was Executive Vice President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation and Managing Director of the Center for Economic Transformation during multiple mayoral terms. His efforts in New York City focused on developing dozens of programs and investing hundreds of millions of dollars to support local job growth, with an emphasis on high-tech jobs.

Gertler is a frequent participant, speaker, and moderator at a variety of industry and international events including gatherings like the Milken Global Conference, Aspen Ideas Festival and The World Economic Forum. His writing has been published in numerous news outlets over the years, including the New York Daily News, The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Huffington Post, U.S. News & World Report, International Herald Tribune, am New York, The Jerusalem Post, Jewish Press, and many others. He has been widely quoted in numerous publications, including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal; he has appeared on a wide variety of television programs, including CNN, Fox, NBC, ABC and CBS; and he has been a guest on multiple podcasts.

Gertler is a member of Young Presidents Organization and the Council on Foreign Relations. He is the recipient of numerous honors, including The Gotham Great Award Winner (2025), E&Y Entrepreneur of The Year Mid-Atlantic Winner (2025), The Ellis Island Medal of Honor (2024), and the Carnegie Corporation Great Immigrant Award (2017), among others.
