The Secret Power of Embracing Emotions at Work

Conversation with Liz Fosslien & Mollie West Duffy

As humans, we’re inherently emotional. There’s no way to turn it off. Even if it feels uncomfortable to share our emotions at work, Liz Fosslien and Mollie West Duffy, authors of the bestselling book Big Feelings and the Wall Street Journal bestselling book No Hard Feelings, argue that embracing our emotions makes us better at our jobs. So instead of trying to suppress emotion at work, Liz and Mollie propose that we learn how to express emotion in a way that’s beneficial to both ourselves and others.

During this Forecast, Liz and Mollie will discuss the role of emotions at work, outline a framework for making better decisions by tapping into our emotions, and explain how to move from emotional intelligence to emotional agility.

The Future of Aging

Conversation with Nir Barzilai, Director of the Institute for Aging Research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine

For many of us, old age comes with a myriad of health issues, particularly cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and cognitive decline. But a small few live active and productive lives well into their nineties or longer without encountering any of these afflictions. Dr. Nir Barzilai refers to them as SuperAgers.

Founder of the Institute for Aging Research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Nir Barzilai has spent his career exploring how to improve not only longevity but also quality of life by counteracting the aging process in order to avoid age-related diseases entirely. Dr. Barzilai argues that aging can be “targeted, improved and even cured,” and that it should be thought of as not “as a certainty but as a phenomenon.”

During this Forecast, Dr. Barzilai will discuss his life’s work studying 750 of the world’s SuperAgers, and the biological secrets he discovered as to why certain people live healthier and longer lives —and how we can recreate the same experience for everyone. We’ll find out why Dr. Barzilai believes we’re “ushering in a future where the norm will be for people to be healthy, active and mentally sharp, during the last quarter of their lives.”

The Master of Scale

Conversation with Reid Hoffman, Co-Founder of LinkedIn, Co-Founder of Inflection AI, & Partner at Greylock

Whether it's building a network business or helping others achieve tremendous professional success, Reid Hoffman has been at the forefront of transformation and entrepreneurship. After graduating from Stanford University, Hoffman worked at Apple and PayPal. In 2003, he co-founded LinkedIn. He made investments in Facebook and Airbnb. He joined Greylock in 2009 and co-founded Inflection AI in 2022. However, one constant thread has run through all of these ventures: Hoffman's entrepreneurial and network mindset.

In his book, The Startup of You, Hoffman makes the case that everyone—regardless of industry—should approach their careers with an entrepreneurial mindset because constant self-improvement is at its core.

Join us for this session of Forecast as we discuss why we should never consider ourselves to have reached a career plateau, but rather should always evolve and adapt to new opportunities. Hoffman will share how to survive and thrive in today’s fiercely competitive economy, how to gain a competitive advantage as an employee in today’s market, and how to build a professional network so you don’t have to apply for work the traditional way. We will also learn how to take intelligent risks in your business and at work.
